Suzhou Old Town Group Tour
Summary & Features
In the heart of modern Suzhou, the spirit of the ancient city lives on. In this city of artists and merchants, you will discover the story behind the growth and development of one of China's great cities.
Detailed Day by Day Itinerary
| Day 1 | |
Shanghai-Suzhou-Shanghai
Activities: Pick up and travel to Suzhou. Visit Lion Forest, Suzhou Museum, Silk Factory, Hanshan Temple, Grand Canal Cruise and Shantang Ancient Street. Return to Shanghai.
Meals: Lunch
Transportation: Bus
Your guide will pick you up at the hotel and accompany you to Suzhou. The first stop of the tour will be at the Lion Forest, so named because of the lion shaped rocks that dot the park. Covering an area of about 10,000 square meters (2.5 acres), Lion Grove Garden is ideal for sightseeing with its ornately-decorated pavilions and towers of various styles.
At the Suzhou museum, constructed on the site of the former residence of official Li Xiucheng of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, you will have a chance to view around 3,000 artifacts from throughout the long history of Suzhou.
As China is known for its fine fabrics, the Silk Factory in Suzhou is a true must-see attraction. Here you will see the fascinating process by which the cocoons of silk worms become thread.
After lunch at a local restaurant, proceed to the Hanshan Temple, located beside the Grand Canal. This temple is Suzhou's most significant landmark.
Next proceed to take a Grand Canal Cruise. This 1,700km long waterway runs from Beijing to Hangzhou. This enormous project was a key moment in the development of the Chinese nation.
Before returning the Shanghai, the group will visit Shangtang Ancient Street, the most famous ancient street in Suzhou.
Return to Shanghai.
The tour ends.
